  • Ensure public consultation on the City of New Westminster plan (due to Council 15 June 2007)
  • Review and provide feedback to the City on the draft plan (Fall 2007)
  • Ensure an effective implementation plan is reflected in annual budgets (2008 budget)

Promote Apartment/Condominium composting:

  • Phase I - Central composting facility pilot project (2007)
  • Phase II - Distributed composting facilities (2008)
  • Phase III - Individual building/strata composting facilities (2009)

  • Triple Bottom Line accounting policy instituted for all projects over $50,000
  • Hiring of an Environmental Coordinator
  • Production of New Westminster Green Guide for Residents and Businesses
  • Car Sharing Strategy - promotion through private and City vehicles

  • Bio-diesel fuel program for City fleet
  • Green operating procedures implemented - e.g., zero-waste meetings
  • Carbon Neutral Policy - purchase of Green Power Certificates and carbon offsets for travel by City employees and Council
  • 10 year Greenway/Bikeway implementation plan completed
  • Walkable City Plan and 5-year implementation plan completed
  • Employee trip reduction program. Removal of free employee parking, introduction of comprehensive employee trip reduction program credits for employees who walk, cycle or take transit
  • Green fleet 5-year procurement program, elimination of employee car allowances and mileage claims, conversion to fuel efficient pool cars
  • "Transit-Friendly City" Plan and Implementation Strategy - plan to introduce transit priority measures, minimum service level guidelines, intermodal travel and upgrading of 50% of transit stops with CPTED supportive shelters by 2010
  • Brunette River watershed environmental overview completed
  • Brunette River 10-year remediation action plan
  • Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA) review
